Working draft

Clear, fair and unsupported.

The final version will follow with the route and organisational detail. The basic idea is already clear: ride independently, stay fair and treat people with respect.

01

Ride your own ride.

The published route must be completed under your own power. Navigation, repairs, food, sleep and personal organisation are fundamentally your responsibility.

02

No private support.

No support crew, no personal support vehicle and no equipment depots prepared specifically for you along the route.

03

Public services are fair game.

Shops, accommodation, food services and workshops may be used as long as they are generally open to everyone.

04

Base Camp and possible checkpoints.

The Base Camp is part of the concept. Additional checkpoints remain open. If they happen, services will be described transparently and offered equally to everyone.

05

No drafting for solo riders.

Intentional drafting is not compatible with the solo category.

  • Guideline on open roads: about 20 m of distance, or enough distance that no aerodynamic advantage is clearly being sought.
  • Overtaking: pass efficiently and clearly re-establish distance afterwards.
  • When overtaken: do not latch onto the rear wheel.
  • Short-term proximity in traffic, towns, at lights, during navigation or for safety reasons is acceptable.
06

Exception for officially registered duos.

Riders registered as a duo may ride together and draft within their team. The exception applies only within the registered team.

07

Sleeping outdoors: legal and considerate.

Illegal wild camping is not required and is not romanticised. Plan legal accommodation, campsites or places where you have permission to stay.

08

Safety comes before the result.

In an emergency, helping a person matters more than placing. Anyone assisting in a genuine emergency acts in the spirit of the event.

09

Respect everyone.

Shores & Switchbacks is open to people from different backgrounds, identities and realities. Discrimination, harassment and hateful behaviour have no place here.
